My name is Giorgia Volpin and I am a 25-years old student from Venice, Italy, currently living in Seoul, South Korea.
The way I got to know about Korea when I was a teenager was actually very random. One day I was bored and I ended up finding some Kpop music videos on Youtube, and what should I say… It was love at first sight.
When I turned 19 I had to face the decision every teenager have to face sooner or later: “What I want to do in my life?“. My passion for Korea made me choose Korean Language and Culture as the field of my studies, and that’s how the journey which brought me to live in Korea now has started.
Now I’m a Master’s student at Seoul National University, majoring in International Studies and two years had already passed since I started living in Seoul.
Why GioSeoul? I hope it is actually way deeper than how it might look like. Gio is an abbreviation of my first name, Giorgia. Outside Italy people sometimes struggle to pronounce my name correctly, therefore I got used to letting people call me just…Gio 🙂
Seoul…well, if it wasn’t clear enough, I’m currently living in Seoul. But the reason why I chose this name is that the correct pronunciation of Seoul sounds like “soul” in English. When I was thinking about this blog’s name I wanted something that that would connect to my life at 360 degrees. GioSeoul is not only about Gio in Seoul, but also about her soul.
GioSeoul was born in a day I didn’t feel satisfied with my life and I kept getting negative responses from job applications. Instead of keep living with the idea I’m not good enough, I decided to write about something I’m definitely an expert about…Korea 🙂
On GioSeoul I talk about what I learned in these 2 years living in South Korea. About Korean Culture, Language, Food, Travel, and about the craziest experiences that shaped my life here.
